If you can make it through the first 20 minutes of pretty visual sex, self-fellatio and several really graphic cumshots - you will find a gem of a film. Once again director John Cameron Mitchell ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch") wins you over, by creating characters you actually want to know more about - and aside from the start where he really hits you over the head with the sex, the rest of the movie is actually very sweet. As for the first minutes of the movie, it actually works very well to temper the audience, get out all the giggles and force you to get comfortable with seeing things on a big screen that most people haven't. The film is smug in places, completely unbelieveable in some places and totally predictable in others, but strangely enough is one of the best feel good movies I've ever seen!

ReplyDeleteI'm with you both on this, it is extremely sexually graphic but that has never put me off anything. Get beyond that and it's really quite sweet and funny but it is no Hedwig And The Angry Inch unfortunately.
