I noticed for the first time last night that the number of TV boxsets in my DVD collection has surpassed the number of movies. If I'm honest, it's now my preferred way of watching my favourite programmes. I no longer have to try and figure out TV3's (and in some cases RTE's) random, lucky dip attitude to programme scheduling. There isn't an ad break every ten seconds like on Sky and I don't have to worry about missing an episode because I've set the recorder incorrectly. I can watch a single episode or as is usually the case a whole disc. A recent series or an old favourite. Bliss!
It would seem that I'm not the only one to think this way. It was because of DVD sales that "Family Guy" got recommissioned after 3 years and cancelled sci-fi series "Firefly" made it to the big screen in the critically acclaimed, if only moderately successful "Serenity".
Even Xtra-Vision has gotten in on the act, offering rental on TV boxsets for a tenner a week.
My own collection includes "Doctor Who", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Planet Earth", "Father Ted", "Six Feet Under", "The Muppet Show", "Fraggle Rock" and "Scrubs".
Which brings me to my question. Which (if any) TV shows do you own on DVD and how do you watch yours?
