Winona - Max

I have two film composers that I absolutely adore the first is Thomas Newman who has scored numerous films, to many to mention but examples of his work would be Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty and Finding Nemo. My second composer is a Scot called Craig Armstrong who has scored for films like The incredible Hulk, Love actually, Ray and Moulin Rouge.

Craig Armstrong though has also done a lot of work with Massive Attack and other artists and that is really what I love about this guy, he can do your orchestral scores for movies but then put his hand to electronica and all other sorts of genres of music. "As if to nothing" was my first encounter of his solo work and was an album I bought because I heard 2 tunes downstairs in HMV Grafton Street and asked the guys if I could buy whoever the hell it was, its an album that has never outgrown me and one I would recommend to everybody.

His latest work Winona is a collaborative project between Craig and Scott Fraser. They dusted off their eye-watering collection of vintage synthesizers and set about creating glacial European pop / electro music in 2006, the album is released on Itunes now but I am going to wait for the cd to come out on Monday, I have to say has me all excited again, give this tune a listen.

  1. YT is blocked in work so can't listen now. My favourite film composer is Ennio Morricone. Top has to be the Mission, also Cinema Paradiso, Once Upon a Time in America, Untouchables, etc, etc. He's a master of emotional melody.
