10 past 2 and because of you, I haven't slept a wink

For most of yesterday and all this morning it was 10 past 2 in Milanland.

If you haven't guessed it's because my trusty watch stopped yesterday afternoon. There's nothing worse. I spent the whole time looking at my watch, seeing 10 past 2, and then remembering that it had stopped. This morning I woke up about 7 times between 8 and 9 each time looking at my watch then fumbling round for the phone to get the time.

This is stage one of watch-withdrawal. I got a new battery first thing today but on other occasions I've gone into the later stages of withdrawal:

stage 2: raising wrist to view point then remembering it's not working
stage 3: fliching wrist then remembering before you've raised it
stage 4: remembering before you have to move wrist but being conscious of wrist
stage 1a to 5: feeling as if part of your body is missing when no pressure is applied to your wrist from a missing watch that's being repaired.

I know many people have moved on from watches, using mobiles for time and all, but I still love my watch and couldn't live without it.

ps - I know the song should be "half past two" but am using poetic licence.

  1. "There's nothing worse." That's pretty interesting. Especially coming from you :)

  2. I either wear a watch at all times or never at all. In hte interim, I'm worse than you - I raise my wrist repeatedly, and stare for a while at the small freckle just beneath my wrist bone, trying to work out what's going on. And I ask people the time every ten seconds. I'm not as bad as I used to be, probably jsut because of the mobile.

    Take me ages to stop.

But then the last time I started wearing my watch again I had to make a concerted effort to.
