What a cool video.

So this is Radiohead, a band I don't really get although I do know a good few of their tunes and really like them.

This video though is stunning, in the video for "House of Cards", no cameras or lights were used. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects, the video was created entirely with visualizations of that data wow. I want one of those scanners that they used for this video, a Velodyne Lidar system which used 64 lasers to take 900 shots per minute as it rotated around a 360-degree radius, imagine the fun you could have with that at home for dirty home movies.

Anyhow one thing I do like about this band is the fact they try to do things out of the ordinary, sometimes to great effect, other times I just dont get.

Last year, Radiohead avoided music labels by releasing In Rainbows online for a user-defined price. Now the band has side-stepped music television by launching the House Of Cards clip on Google.

There are a load of links on the google site, the one I am going to spend the day messing with is the data-visualization part which allows you to explore data visualization through a 3D viewer and use your mouse to further manipulate the data and create your own visualizations, from there you can download the data and instructions on how to create your own visualizations, pretty damn cool if you ask me.

UPDATE : Wow this is good fun, here is my first attempt at manipulating the video data files.
