Mannys

I see Jade Goody has been the victim of theft by her male childminder or mannys as I believe they're called. I was listening to panelists on a radio show discuss this yesterday and the two female contributors indicated that they wouldn't be in favour of a male nanny. So what do you think? Would you have serious concerns and refuse outright to consider a man to mind your weenies (as MW calls them!) or is it a case of the right person for the right job?
My instinct is telling me that a male nanny would be great for young children with tonnes of energy! As opposed to someone like me who may want to wrap them in cotton wool and protect them from air. I don't know why I think that, I suppose it's because I imagine men care less than women about how clean the kid's trendy new clothes are or the effect that super-sour-skittles will have on the mood of a boisterous 5 year old. Maybe I'm being completely sexist and falling into stereotypes but feel free to tell me!

(Woohoo, my first post out of the way.... now for the pressure of the difficult second album blogpost).

  1. All I can say is, it would take a very confident man to work as a Nanny. No reason they shouldn't do it of course, but can you picture the scene down the pub on a lads night out, when the question "So what do you do?" rolls around.

  2. Congrats on the first post, well being the father of an 11 month old, I would love to be able to stay at home looking after my little princess but then again I am a Daddy.

    Looking after other folks kids every day hmm I dunno. The slightest bit of pressure would kill a man, women cope so much better.

    But I do think Manny are going to become more previlant over the next few years, its the new age man.

  3. I'd have a Manny, lots of energy as you said but also I wouldn't have to worry about my hubby lusting over the 18 year old nymph nanny from France.... Congrats on joining the commune:-}

  4. I think Manny's are a wonderful idea. Women and men bring different things to a child development. Anything that helps makes finding a childminder easier has to be good. I'd have no issues having a man as a child minder for my kid assuming I feel comfortable with the person but that would apply just as equally to a female childminder.
