Reports last night suggested that there was a loud explosion in Rush last night. According to RTE:
Following reports of a large bang that shook windows, gardaí carried out searches for an explosive device this morning.
Gardaí now say they received a report from Met Éireann showing that 'freak weather' conditions were probably to blame for the noise.
The fire service says a helicopter search was carried out overnight but nothing was found.
So what did the state broadcaster do? Investigate this unusual occurance? Question the official story? Ask just what unusual source caused this strange explosion heard for miles around? No. They wheeled out Ger "Winky" Fleming to tell us it was the weather that caused it. Likely. Have a look anyway:
Nothing found by the helicopter either.
Weird that.
