Mr. Pink's Twelve Posts of Christmas: Three

It's back to the countdown of the 5 best Christmas films ever for post number three, with similarly themed movies taking the third and fourth positions...

4. The Polar Express: If your kids don't believe in Santa, then show them the Polar Express, starring Tom Hanks and based on the children's book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. A boy who is not convinced about the magic of Christmas embarks on a train ride with a difference to the North Pole.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis ("Back to the Future", "Forrest Gump"), "The Polar Express" was filmed as a live-action movie using performance capture technology (see also "Monster House" and most recently "Beowulf") which incorporates the movements of live actors into animated characters. It stars Tom Hanks in five distinct roles, including the boy and Santa. Talk about being greedy.

  1. I love the Polar express! It's such a lovely story, and even I, as a thirty something (yummy) mummy, even I want to believe in Santa!

  2. Ooooohhhh...the original Miracle on 34th Street is just one of my holiday favorites. /sigh I wish the Thanksgiving Day parade was that good still! It's such crap now...tho one year I was there, and Ponch and John from CHiPs were on a float (that tells you how long ago it was!) I think Neil Diamond was too....

  3. If you like the move the Polar Express book is lovely, particularly for the little ones at this time of year. Miracle On 34th Street is an all time great and Pinky is right, the remake is pretty good too.
