A thought occured to me just as I was mentioning in a comment about Dolly's namesake playing Ireland this weekend. I'm sure we've done it before but maybe time for a revival now that there are a different group of people here (I would look up to see if there was a last one but it's late and I'm goggle eyed)
Where did you get your name from?
Mine comes from my profile picture. A lego version of Damien Hirsts's formaldehyde shark in a tank. Its formal title?
The Physical Impossibility Of Death In The Mind Of Someone Living.
Seemed like a good idea at the time.
You?

Mine's pretty boring - there was (or still is, haven't been at home for almost a year now) an ad for club Orange where everyone is skipping in the street and the song goes ' Voodoo lady, shakin that stick, drivin me crazy' and I liked it. Plus my fella often says I'm a bit evil/crazy, ha.
ReplyDeletehee hee, I like that Voodoo, my name is obvious, I am a person who wrangles kids, midget wrangler, I am also short though (5' 1.5") so it's a name that works on two levels!
ReplyDeletedolly was picked for two reasons, but the main reason was I had to pick a user name for a silly online game (which I ended up playing for 3 years so not so silly after all) and as I was new to the whole gaming thing and thought of it as a virtual version of this world I saw us players as clones; dolly the cloned sheep.
ReplyDeleteBut I was also called dolly around the office after a Western costume party we've had. 3 bras stuffed with 7 pairs of nylons had been put on. The only evening the guys stared more at my breasts than my face.
Well the name Shanachie came like Dolly from a online game I used to play called World of Warcraft, which I am sure I have posted about here.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo my character was a tauren Druid and I thought I would inject some Irish folklore into the game by calling him "shanacie" yep that was how I spelt it back then, incorrectly, when I was asked to write here I had every intention of writing like a shanachie, I dont think that happened but its better then the nickname I used during that 3 year game I also played with Dolly, when I commonly known as jishot.
I'm a huge fan of the singer Darren Day and Gabriel Byrne is my favourite actor. SO it was a toss up between calling myself Darren Byrne or Gay Day. I chose the former!
ReplyDeleteLmao class answer Daz
ReplyDeleteGay Day, Gay Day!!!! Change your name! There was a comedy character who used to say "What a Gay Day!" very camp....Are you being served?
ReplyDeleteSuits you sir.
ReplyDeleteLook - Daz, whiter that white, stalkee, Gay Day, Are you being served, has only been with us a wet day and already has several names. The way it should be.
My name "Aquaasho" was randomly picked for me when I tried to get a name with "Ash" in it, to log into the Independent newspapers website a long time ago. Even though I spell my name the Irish way (Aisling), no "H".
ReplyDeleteThat answer, while true, was so boring but I have since completed an aquathon and I swim 7 days a week so I now deserve my name!!! YAY!!
Self fulfilling prophesy, Ais. Or should I be saying Ash?
ReplyDeleteMine's to obvious to need explaining... though Ails did think it was like Pocahontas, Shan told me - Jothemama. V exotic! Like an eighties coconut shampoo...
Jo - I'm sure you've heard this before but I never sussed the 3 words of your name until very much pointed out to me so til this day I still read your name as jowte-mama.
ReplyDeleteHah, my word verification is 'coomt' this morning.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, Milan. When I started up infantasia, I was like ner, a name, justjo's always gone these days, ok, who am I/what am I, I'm Jo, I'm a mama. That'll do...
JO, you are much more than Jo the Mama....ok?
ReplyDeleteOh, jeeze, Midge, I wasn't meaning to suggest I wasn't. But I set up my blog when I was pregnant with the intention of having a blog for all things-mama, so it made sense at the time!
ReplyDeleteYou should never have said Gay Day dude. It will go down in lore like man hams.
ReplyDeleteVoodoo? Welcome back!
I only asked this so Dolly could tell her stories :)
