Today Does Not Belong To Me

7.00am - My phone rings. Family member in hospital & needs a lift home. Groggily I say "I'll be right there" and wipe the sleep from my eyes.

7.01am - I realise that my car insurance expired at midnight yesterday and I can't "technically" drive.

7.02am - Get sleepy boyfriend to check mail to see if new proposal forms have arrived. No. Supposed to be going down the country tomorrow problem.

7.10am - Decide to go to hospital anyway. If I am stopped I can say the cert is in the post. Knowing my luck today will be the day I have an accident.

7.15am - Can't find car keys.

7.20am - Car starts to shudder. Keep on going Ruby.

7.30am - Traffic Jam getting onto N11. Nothing on the radio.

7.45am - Arrive at hospital. Dog runs in front of the car and barely survives.

8.20am - In Wicklow. This is never good.

8.40am - Wake my mum to make me some tea. This is the first time I have seen her in over a month. She makes me tea, gives me a hug and we have a nice chat. The day is getting a bit better.

9.00am - Ring work. Tell them I have a wee situation and I will be in shortly.

9.20am - Pop into Insurance Brokers. They can't find the forms or any record of my existence. Grr.

10.00am - Finally leave brokers. €500 poorer but with some peace of mind.

10.20am - Home for shower. The Cat is ill. Clean up ensues.

11.30am - N11. Car shudders. Keep going Ruby. "NO!" Ruby replies and glides to a halt. Chug-a-chug-a-chug. Nothing. Chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-chug.....Nothing.

11.35am - Consider options. Look under bonnet. Realise who I am and that I can barely distinguish between the engine and the radiator. On further contemplation I realise I CAN'T even make that distinction.

11.40am - Remember I have just renewed my car Insurance and I now have FREE roadside assistance. Happy Days.

11.42am - Speak to Recovery service. They are about 30 minutes away.

11.43am - Ring work. Inform them I have yet another "situation" and I'll be there as soon as I can.

12.30pm - Big blue truck arrives.

12.35pm - Mr. Builders Bottom hmms & haws. This doesn't look good.

12.50pm - Apparently it's some sort of battery/fuse/cable problem. He speaks Swahili for a while and tells me to "try it now!. Chug-a-chug-a-chug. .......Chug-a-chug-a-chug. .......Chug-a-chug-a-chug...Brumm brumm. LIFE!

1.2opm - I sit in the garage watching Mr. Builders Bottom and his relatives Hmm and Haw some more. The foreboding feeling of "This is gonna cost me" comes over me. More Swahili.I have to come back at 5.30pm.

2.00pm - I consider ringing Bank to take out new mortgage. I hope this isn't an omen for the weekend ahead.

:(

  1. If you could make a deal with fate that all the bads things that could happen over a weekend would fall on you on one day so that the rest would be trouble free - would you take it?

Fingers crossed that's all this is... :)

  2. Hope you have a nice weekend... I've written that on lots of work-related emails today (well, it is Friday, why not bring some sunshine) but this time I really truly mean it!

  3. K well it's looking up. Car fixed - sorta - and wasn't too expensive.

I popped into Superquinn on way home to pick up some dinner. When I got home, the cheeses I bought was all mouldy (not intentionally) and I brought it back. The manager gave me a bottle of wine for the inconvenience.

Home now with bottle opener in hand.

  4. Re morning, hate that. Re free wine, fair play.

  5. Jaysus, that's not a great day in anyone's language. Except or the wine. Providing it was a decent bottle obviously. I have nothing to say today. I'll just shut up now.
